Oelwein

Oelwein is considered the "Hub City" of northeast Iowa. This nickname came about due to the fact that Oelwein was the intersecting hub of the Chicago Great Western Railway, connecting Chicago, Minneapolis and Kansas City. Oelwein is the largest community in Fayette County with about 6,500 people calling Oelwein home. Oelwein boasts eleven community parks. The city park consists of 69 acres along with a man-made lake, Lake Oelwein, that is 55 acres. Camping is available at the city park along with a playground, picnic shelters, a tennis court, a sand volleyball court, horse shoes, and restroom facilities.
