Elgin named "River Town of the Year"

We can finally announce that Elgin is the 2018 River Town of the Year!
Here is the social media release from Iowa Rivers Revival:
Each year, Iowa Rivers Revival presents the "River Town of the Year" Award to an Iowa river community that demonstrated a commitment to reclaiming the waterfront. The Award highlights a city of town's outstanding work to enhance connections to its river, using it as an anchor for economic development, recreation, and ecological practices, as well as addressing some of the challenges and solutions related to water quality.

We are so excited to announce that on March 16th, w e will present the 2018 award to Elgin! Elgin, along with great partners at the Fayette County Conservation, Northeast Iowa RC&D, and the Turkey River Recreational Corridor, has embraced the Turkey River and its surrounding area!

Hazard Mitigation Plan

The Fayette County Hazard Mitigation Plan is now available for public review and comment. Fayette County and its jurisdictions have worked diligently over the last year and a half to complete an update to a Comprehensive Hazard Mitigation Plan.  Beginning December 20, a draft of the plan will be available for review or comment on the Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission website,

Elgin Named a Top River Town

Elgin was named a Top Three finalist for 2017 River Town of the Year by the nonprofit group Iowa River Revival. Elgin is a member of the Turkey River Recreation Cooridor, which was the first river region to be designated an Iowa Great Place; the River Bluffs Scenic Byway; and the Turkey River Water Trail. There are numerous land trails around Elgin, plus the expansion of the Elgin-to-Gilbertson Park Trail project. Also, Elgin is a member of the Turkey River Watershed Management Authority, which is focused on flood prevention and water quality.
